Blox Fruits Explained: Roblox’s One Piece Game

What happens with one of the most popular manga and anime series of all time enters the Roblox ring? Well, if you said that it also becomes one of the most popular Roblox games of all time, then you were right.

Of course, I’m talking about Blox Fruits, the One Piece-inspired (but not officially affiliated) Roblox experience.

In my years of playing Roblox since 2016, there are few games that have shot up through the ranks as this game has, and I aim to explain why in this Blox Fruits explained guide.

Blox Fruits is not my favorite game in Roblox, but I can see the value in the experience. It is massive, with hundreds, if not thousands of hours of gameplay for you to enjoy.

The idea of pitting marines versus the lawless pirates is an enjoyable one that completely buys into the idea of the One Piece series. It is no wonder that there are thousands of players playing it all the time.

Bottom Line Up Front

Blox Fruits is one of the most popular games that you can play in Roblox, with billions of visits to date. The general idea is that players select between two persistent factions: the pirates or the marines.

Based on the beloved One Piece manga and anime series, players can choose their side in the war for the seas, command their crew, sail the open waters, and level up their stats and skills.

In classic fashion, there are even the titular Blox Fruits that you can eat to acquire new abilities, much like the Devil Fruits in One Piece.

Blox Fruits Overview

What I like about Roblox is that it has such an open-ended format to it that you can literally do whatever you want and create whatever experience you want here. This has led to countless games based on other properties, including manga and anime.

Blox Fruits is one example of this, clearly based on One Piece. However, it smartly avoids the copyright territory that some of the other Roblox games have no problem tripping into. Blox Fruits is one of the biggest games on Roblox right now.

At the time of writing this, it is in the middle of the morning my time, and I went on to find a whopping 150,000 players online at this moment.

Sure, Roblox is an international game, but even other similarly popular titles like Bloxburg and Royale High are in the mere tens of thousands of players.

This is due to the sheer quality experience that Blox Fruits offers, mixed with the immense popularity of the One Piece franchise even decades after its introduction.

Everything that Blox Fruits does is based on that property from top to bottom, including its general setting and idea.

The premise of Blox Fruits is that players have two factions to choose from: the pirates and the marines. They are at constant war with one another, with each side having its own agenda and gameplay features in the game.

The gameplay in Blox Fruits is highly action-based, with combat being the main focus. Thankfully, there are several ways of engaging in combat, with multiple weapon types, stats, and skills involved.

This is also an action RPG, so that means that there is plenty of room to level up, gain new skills, and continuously get better.

This is all the while exploring a massive world with many islands and places to visit. If you are looking for a game with a massive level of commitment and tons to do, look no further. There is an absolutely insane amount of content that exists, especially when you consider the two factions.

Pirates Faction Explained

Pirates Faction Explained

At the start of Blox Fruits, when you first boot up the game, you have a difficult choice that you face right off the bat. That choice is: which faction will you join?

Now, to make it clear before I go any further, this is by no means a permanent decision that you are making in Blox Fruits.

Every single time that you boot up the game, you are allowed to pick either side so you can play pirates one day and then jump to the marines the next.

There is no locked situation like that at all. Also, these are permanent factions, so nothing like two sides that battle it out in a match, and then you are constantly switching back and forth.

Each faction has its own persistent gameplay systems, and the best part is that you have a steady character progression no matter what.

Your character’s level and general stats remain exactly the same no matter which side you choose. So, feel free to jump between the two as you play with friends and the like.

But, for the most part, the most popular faction is always going to be the pirates. This is understandable since they are lawless and more rugged than the rigged marines. You can see this in the servers where there will be five to even ten times more pirates than marines.

The pirate’s faction is exciting since you will be able to roleplay the dream of sailing the open seas with a bounty on your head.

You can create your own pirate crew with this faction, with strangers, or with your friends. Get your boat and start causing chaos for the marines out there.

The more damage that you deal to the steady system that the marines have created, the higher the bounty that you will have on your head. This will ensure that everyone on the server knows just how powerful and dangerous you are.

With this method, you can become as infamous and hated by the community as someone like Blackbeard and Shanks from the One Piece series.

Marines Faction Explained

Marines Faction Explained

On the other hand, if you want to be the stick in the mud, which makes sure that no one has any fun at all, feel free to join the marines. Just kidding! I like being on the marines faction as it offers a gameplay goal that is slightly different from that of the pirate’s side.

When I play Blox Fruits, I usually take turns between the two. What I like about the marines is that they are the ones who are hunting down the pirates, like bounty hunters in a way.

When you look at it like that, the marines faction seems a lot more interesting than it might appear.

For one, there is the fact that they have access to all of that sweet, sweet government money. With the power of the national authority on their side, they have access to easier boats that they can get. Ships are cheaper and easier to acquire on the marine’s side.

While on the pirate’s side, it is as if you are starting from scratch; the marines at least have an easier time in general with getting a ship. If your main goal is to get on the open seas and conquer them, then the marines faction might be a great starting point for you.

In addition, they are like bounty hunters, so your job is to take out the pirates that are out there. Should you succeed in taking out any pirates on the seas, you will earn their respective bounties.

Since there aren’t many marines usually, this means that you will probably have a ton of money to earn from that.

The problem is that there aren’t many marines in general. In fact, whenever I play Blox Fruits by myself, I usually find only one or two other marines on a server. Whereas there will literally be ten times or even more pirates on the opposite side of the equation.

This is a negative since you will have almost no one to team up with when it comes to taking on the pirates. Meanwhile, on their side, they may have an entire crew that they have formed.

Speaking of which, you cannot form formal crews with the other marines, unlike on the pirate’s side.

Because of all this, I only recommend marines to players with friends they can team up with. If you are playing by yourself, chances are that you could be the only marine in that entire server. This is unfortunate since you will likely have no help whatsoever in taking down the enemy pirates.

The one benefit of all this is that, at least, the pirates are not loyal to one another and can attack each other, unlike the marines, who are all on the same side.

However, this does little for you if the pirates are all teaming up together against you. Marines can be a decent starting faction, but I think it is mainly for endgame players who are working together in a large group.

How to Start

When you first begin Blox Fruits, I think the pirate faction is the best intro side. Though the marines are good for beginners, I think that the pirate’s side teaches the ways of the game a little bit better. What you should do, first and foremost, is familiarize yourself with the gameplay.

I recommend grabbing the first quest near your spawn point on the starting pirate island to do this. This quest will be to kill five bandits, and that is it. The bandits are nearby and level five, which is much higher than your starting level, but they should be easy to take out.

I recommend using the basic combo to take them out and finish the quest. Thankfully, you can redo this quest as many times as you want, which is necessary for leveling up quickly and earning some cash.

With that money, you can visit the nearby vendor and start buying your first weapon.

Leveling Up, Stats Explained

Blox Fruits

At least at first, the goal you should have in Blox Fruits is to level up as much as possible. This will allow you to sufficiently survive more challenging fights, easily explore higher-level areas, and gain access to many fantastic features in the game.

Leveling up is what I recommend to all players, but to do that, you need to gain some experience. Thankfully, what I like about Blox Fruits is that it offers two different factions without gatekeeping out of one or the other. There is a single shared account level that you have for your character.

Suppose you’re level 500 on the pirate’s side. In that case, you will also be level 500 on the marine’s side, even if you have never played that faction before.

To gain experience to level up, there are a couple of ways you can do this. First, you gain experience by taking out enemies in battle.

The other is by completing missions and quests that you find. Each of these will give you a set number of experience that you can usually repeat. There is a level of grind to Blox Fruits, for sure, but this is all to increase your stats so that you can be even better in battle.

The stats in Blox Fruits are as follows: melee, defense, sword, gun, and Blox Fruit. They are mostly self-explanatory, but just in case, melee helps with melee damage. This is mainly meant for stuff like brawling with your fists since the sword stat is, well, for swords.

Gun, on the other hand, is for increasing your damage output for firearms. Blox Fruits stat points help you deal more damage with the titular fruits items and the various abilities that they have.

If you think you’ll be using them a lot in the future, invest in this one early on, but it may not benefit you for a long time.

Lastly, defense is not only for defensive stats in battle but your health as well. The problem in Blox Fruits is that there are only so many stat points that you can acquire in the game with the max level cap.

It is best to spend them on only two or three specific stats that you care about the most. You can respec and refund points in the future if you mess up, but it will cost you.

In the same vein of levels, the weapons and Blox Fruits themselves even have levels to them. The more you grind them in battle, the better their Mastery gets.

So, not only is there a grind for your character but there is one for your weapons and Blox Fruits, too. Hence why, this is a massive time commitment.

What is a Blox Fruit?

What is a Blox Fruit?

But you might be wondering what a Blox Fruit is. Blox Fruits are the devil fruits from the One Piece series but with a different name to them.

You know so that they can avoid some copyright infringements. They work primarily the same as the devil fruits that Monkey D. Luffy and the gang have.

Blox Fruits are special items you consume to gain special abilities for battle. Many different Blox Fruits exist in the game, giving you a wide assortment of skills. For the most part, each of them is like elemental magic that you are able to use in battle.

One might focus on some fire abilities that you are now able to use in battle, while another may offer you the chance to command poison. Some are more obscure and less obvious in their skills, while still more Blox Fruits are even OP.

There are definitely Blox Fruits that are better than others and some that are rarer than others. This means there is a grind to find the ones you wish to use the most. How you acquire the Blox Fruits is by simply buying them in the game store.

While this sounds simple, the problem is that many of the Blox Fruits cost an exorbitant amount of money you will not have at the beginning of your pirate journey.

For instance, the first Blox Fruit that you can easily buy is the Bomb fruit. This one only costs $5000 to purchase or 50 Robux.

You can get $5000 relatively easily in the game by just grinding out several early quests for a while. This should not take you long at all.

But the trade-off is that the Bomb Blox Fruit is not that great as time goes on. You will want to upgrade to the better ones as soon as you possibly can.

And, unfortunately, they start to increase in price insanely fast. Some of the top-tier Blox Fruits out there, like the Dragon and Soul ones, will cost well over $3 million to purchase.

This is where the game tries to get some money out of you by offering the chance to buy them with Robux, but there is no need to do that when you can earn your way there fairly.

Another frustrating aspect of the situation is that the store for Blox Fruits changes daily. If there is a fruit you are looking for, chances are that it may not be there right now. This encourages you to check each day and see if the one you want is now available or not.

Best Alternative Roblox Games

Reading this guide, you could be in a couple of places. You might be interested in Blox Fruits but want to see other games that are similar to it in Roblox.

Or, maybe, you already enjoy the game but want to check something out that is similar to it. Here are a few games that I think are worth your time:

Shindo Life

shindo life

If you love the anime and action-packed gameplay aspect of Blox Fruits, Shindo Life is for you. Inspired by Naruto, the gameplay here is deeper and faster than anything I’ve seen, even in Blox Fruits. Plus, it has a similar level of depth to its progression systems.

Swordburst 2

Swordburst 2

Also inspired by anime, but this time Sword Art Online,  you can progress through many dungeons and levels in this lengthy online RPG.

This is one of my favorite Roblox games, in large part due to the amazing sword-based gameplay. If you like melee and sword combat in Blox Fruits, this is a must-try.

Superhero Tycoon

Superhero Tycoon

This is a bit of a weird one, but if you like the idea of starting from nothing and growing in strength and powers, Superhero Tycoon might be for you.

It has a much clearer progression path to earning superpowers from various heroes like Thor, Black Panther, and so on. Plus, you can fight others with those powers, similar to what Blox Fruits offers.
